Yes, the Bina Mulya Samajik Suraksha Yojana (BM-SSY) is a really helpful scheme by the West Bengal government to support workers in the unorganised sector — like drivers, masons, hawkers, barbers, etc.
Who Can Apply?
- Must be 18 to 60 years old
- Resident of West Bengal
- Working in an unorganised sector
- Monthly family income should be below ₹6,500 (unless you’re in transport or construction — then no income limit!)
What Benefits Do You Get?
- Provident Fund: You contribute ₹25/month, and the govt adds ₹30. You get it back with interest after 60 years or in case of disability/death.
- Health Aid: Up to ₹20,000/year for treatment, and ₹60,000 for surgeries.
- Accident Help: ₹2 lakh for accidental death or full disability, ₹50,000 for natural death.
- Education Help: Up to ₹30,000/year for kids’ studies. Plus ₹25,000 for daughters who complete graduation or skill training.
How to Apply?
Online Method:
- Go to: bmssy.wblabour.gov.in
- Click on New Registration
- Fill in your details and upload docs like Aadhaar, bank passbook, photo, etc.
Offline Method:
- Visit your local Labour Office, S.D.O. Office, or Municipality
- Ask for the BM-SSY form, fill it, attach documents, and submit
